I love stories and I love movies. I’ve noticed in the last few years that I can tell you which movies I enjoy and things about them that I appreciate, but I don’t feel competent in analyzing the merits of the film and seeing films from the perspective of industry leaders. So I’m attempting to change that and get some writing practice in the process.
Learn to analyze films by watching AFI’s Top 100 list and write my reaction to them.
Watch each movie twice. Once to get the big picture and the second time to pay closer attention to details. Then write a post focusing on five areas:
- My review through my worldview
- Themes I noticed
- Technical items I noticed
- Why I believe it’s on AFI’s list
This is practice for me. Practice writing. Practice thinking critically. The reviews will come through my world view and my belief on the role I see media and entertainment playing in our culture. This process will be harnessed as I step into this little experiment.
